Top 5 Studying Tips for the Quarantine

Updated: Dec 7, 2021

Take advantage of these proven studying tips to increase your academic productivity during this remote learning experience.

1) Find a study spot

Whether it be a desk in your bedroom, your kitchen table or a sunny spot outside; the first step to building solid study habits at home is to designate a specific area where you can quietly do work.

Maintaining separation from where you study (your desk in your room) and where you relax (your bed where you play hours on end of Call of Duty) will provide you the needed foundation to be able to focus when the time comes. Blogging from Your Wix

2) Create a studying atmosphere

Sometimes the sound of your home may not be best suited for learning. An easy fix to this is to listen to slow-paced music without lyrics or to download an ambient noise app to create a gentle background ambiance perfect for studying.

Although the occasional Drake pump-up song may not hurt, it is proven that music that is slow and relaxing can lower blood pressure and allow our minds to better focus on the material at hand.

Apps like Your Ambience can be found on the IOS app store free of charge and host dozens of usable soundtracks that can calm any studying environment.

3) Make a simple to-do list

After you have created a relaxing spot in your house suited for studying, the next step is to form a schedule and a to-do list for your school week.

Living in the quarantine can make the days feel interconnected and you may lose track of time easily. (It's Tuesday right? RIGHT?!") That's why being on top of your work and upcoming assignments is more important then ever.

I suggest writing down 3-5 things you intend to accomplish daily, prioritize them and then cross them out after completion to show the world that you can do more than just binge watch the Office on Netflix.

4) Stay Connected

Studying at home can get LONELY. That's why it's super important during these social distancing times to stay connected with your classmates and friends through the power of virtual study groups.

Continue working on group projects and keep in contact with your colleagues through free online tools like Zoom, Google Suite, and FaceTime.

5) Take Breaks

After a hard day of virtual classes, homework and studying, be sure to devote generous time to yourself so you can adequately relax.

It's easier than ever to get caught up in this quarantine so prioritize taking breaks throughout your day so you don't over work yourself. As simple as it is to be couch potato, your just as susceptible to pick up unhealthy working habits being at home.

So don't let all this free time on your hands go to waste. Start an at home workout regime. Pick up that old guitar you haven't touched since sixth grade. Or, like me, start writing more! (like this blog 😁)
